Being trapped in the middle of uncharted space was a major setback. Still, Ven felt certain his strategy was sound.

SKETCHES MACHINA

Face Sketches

These are sketches done while I was scanning art. I then scanned them and colored them in Photoshop. I used the brushes there to simulate a kind of watercolor painting technique. Why?
1. Creative personal amusement.
2. Research and development.
3. To post here for whoever may tune in.

POSTCARDS FROM SPACE

These are sketches for paintings I might actually paint.

UPDATED: This looks closer, at least on my machine, to the original file.

Another tough guy mug sketch in color. The color looked better before I made it a jpeg. Ahh well, no time right now to adjust it.

DRAWIN' ME OUT

Word on the street is I've been neglectin' the blog too long.
Been caught up in a complex web of conspiracy to drive me mad.
In other words, I've been busy with freelance.

RARE BIRDS

These were drawn with Prismacolor pencils while I was scanning other art. I wish they had scanned better. I might do them in another medium.

John Carter of Mars

I don't know about you, but I'm really curious to see what Pixar will do with Edgar Rice Burroughs other great adventure hero.

A lot of people have attempted to make this movie (even Looney Tunes animator Bob Clampett tried) but for some reason it never happens. Here's an interesting interview with Illustrator/Production Designer William Stout about an ill-fated attempt at making a movie adaptation of the story.
